Sunday Activities

Looking for some spiritual growth combined with an insight into Sunday’s scripture? We all know how difficult the Bible can be to read. Well, if your interest is piqued, pop by at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays and see what others and scholars are saying. We read the scripture, then review each of these items: 1) Overview; 2) Biblical Context; 3) Historical/Non-Biblical/Political Context; 4) Historical Timeline / Biblical Time Frame; 5) Scholarly Interpretation and Modern Day Context; and 6) How Should We Act/React to this Scripture Today. There are also some delicious Addendums that seem to surface each week. Past lessons are available in our Downloads section.

First United Methodist Church of Marion welcomes artist and theologian, Sujatha Balasundaramto to share a FREE interactive exhibit which will help us to “Journey with Jesus” throughout the month of March. This exhibit includes artwork as visual cues and interactive participation for contemplation over some of the events during Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Meet the artist and take a first peek at this exhibit on March 1^st in the First UMC Annex Building. You may want to view each “station” all at once or pace yourself throughout the Lenten season. FREE Community Easy Gentle Yoga, Mondays at 6 p.m. in Herbst UMC Fellowship Hall. Bring a mat or blanket and dress comfortably. No experience necessary. Walk-ins Welcome! We focus on easy slow movements, relaxing breath practices and meditation to increase well-being. You can be on the floor, in a chair, stand or do all three. Are you the only adult in your household and raising children ages 0-21? Then you AND your children are invited every Tuesday at 6 p.m. to receive a free dinner and free childcare while single adults enjoy a time of community at Connections of Grant County, located at 702 S Adams St., Marion. Dinner is limited to 25 people. FREE Youth Gaming Night will be hosted by the Herbst United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. All Youths entering 5^th to 12^th grades are welcome to attend this adult-supervised event. FREE “Sew & Tell” Group on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Herbst UMC Fellowship Hall. If you would like to learn to sew or if you’re already a person who sews and are looking to sew alongside friends, this time of fun, fellowship and learning is for you. Herbst UMC along with First UMC will host a contemplative Good Friday Service starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Herbst UMC church. Please feel free to come worship with us for a solemn time of reflection, prayer and penance to recognize Jesus’ crucifixion and death. The Herbst UMC “Community Outreach Baking Team” is now our newest (and most enjoyable) mission. This team will be meeting in the Herbst UMC kitchen on Thursday, April 16^th. Come help us bake, have fellowship, sniff the wonderful smells and then enjoy the giving of these delights as we take them to local assisted living and nursing homes. FREE Community Arts & Crafts Group will meet from 6-8 p.m. in Herbst UMC Fellowship Hall. We always have Bring Your Own Craft (BYOC), but we also have some planned activities you can join! Our crafts typically are intended for many of the missions we support, but the most important activity is just the fellowship and sharing of ideas!
