Our family is open to everyone!
Connections Volunteer Dinner Meeting, May 26 from 6-7 p.m.
This Tuesday, we are inviting all who have donated, cared for, served, set up or cleaned up during Connections dinners to gather to be served dinner, celebrate the ministry’s successes, and make suggestions on how our mission is progressing. Come learn how we are building in “breaks” in our Summer schedule for our volunteers, while keeping participating families connected and our mission’s momentum moving forward.
Free “Sew & Tell” Group Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m.
If you would like to learn to sew or if you’re already a person who sews and are looking to sew alongside friends, see Alice Quinn.
Community Garden Involvement
Things (e.g. weather) are starting to shape up for getting this year’s crops off (in) the ground! Terry has brought some onions, the Stanleys gave a bunch of seeds, Sharon has tomato plants and green peppers. Sharon and Diane got some into the ground before the rains fell, but there’s more planting to be done. And, the Garden Gang is ready for business … Melissa, Barb, Sharon, Tom and Diane. If you want to get involved, let Diane know, because we’ll be getting our hands dirty soon!
Herbstumc.org – Updates
If you haven’t been to our site, it continues to get mildly better. First, the Events page has been kept current, and it can be a good place to go to see all the events we currently have. Most recently, we’ve posted all the 2025 Sunday School lessons on the “Downloads” page. Want to get involved and show off your web skills? See Tom Marine, who is looking for help to make our site a great resource.
Let’s Pray
See an opportunity to pray … then pray. At an event? Pray. Comforting someone? Pray. You don’t have to make a spectacle of yourself … you can even pray silently. If you haven’t heard from someone in a while … given ‘em a call. Pray. Let’s all try to make this a practice that comes naturally and genuinely. Let’s pray.
Cookie Baking Team
The Herbst UMC “Cookie Baking Team” is now our newest (and sweetest) mission. Come help us bake, have fellowship, sniff the wonderful smells, and then enjoy the giving of these delights as we take them to local assisted living and nursing homes. We’re always eager to have new bakers, more ingredients if you can provide, and of course, some taste-testers. For more information, contact Cheryl Stanley.
Family & Kids’ Expo: Invitation to Participate, Sat. August 1
The First UMC Missions team is hosting a Saturday of fun this Summer. They are looking for partners who serve or resource families. All county UMCs are invited to have a table to share what their church has to offer. If you know of a business or agency that serves or provides resources for families who would like a table, please talk with Pastor Laura. Especially needed are those who can offer an activity, low-cost or free food, or other fun for the day.
