Free “Sew & Tell” Group

If you would like to learn to sew or if you’re already a person that sews and are looking to sew alongside friends, see Alice Quinn for information about her next evening of sewing fun at church. The inaugural session was a great success.  This week might be on Thursday.

Connections of Grant County

We can grow our discipleship muscles by reaching out to serve the needs of the community. Unfortunately, our meeting this week is being rescheduled due to the weather. Participants can register through the Connections of Grant County Facebook page or by texting Pastor Laura. If you’re interested in learning how you can participate in this partnership to serve single-parent families in Grant County, please see Pastor Laura, Diane Richey or Cheryl Stanley. We need volunteers to help with dinner and for child care during the January meeting. Participants and volunteers enjoy the meal together. Costs for meals are being supplemented through a recent grant from Meals on Wheels and a generous donation by the Atlas Foundry Foundation.

Women’s Group

Next Meeting Thursday, March 12th at 7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall (Teresa)

All women who attend Herbst UMC are welcome to attend to share a devotion,  fellowship, dessert, and Women’s Group event planning! We’ll also be scheduling the 2026 meetings.

Herbstumc.org – Updates

If you haven’t been to our site, it continues to get mildly better.  First, the Events page has been kept current, and it can be a good place to go to see all the events we currently have. Most recently, we’ve posted all the 2025 Sunday School lessons on the “Downloads” page.  Want to get involved and show off your web skills?  See Tom Marine, who is looking for help to make our site a great resource.

Let’s Pray

See an opportunity to pray … then pray.  At an event?  Pray. Comforting someone?  Pray. You don’t have to make a spectacle of yourself … you can even pray silently.  If you haven’t heard from someone in a while … given ‘em a call. Pray. Let’s all try to make this a practice that comes naturally and genuinely. Let’s pray.

UMC District Training Sessions (April 19)

This has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 19th.  Here’s the description of each session. You can only go to one. The sessions will be recorded, though, so if you can’t make the trip to Muncie, you can watch the recordings online.

Training is from 2-5 p.m. at Community of Hope UMC, 1968 W. Main St, Muncie.

The following sessions will be offered:

SPRC Training: District Superintendent Russ Abel will be leading this opportunity to learn about the responsibilities and expectations of SPRC.  This is a very important role in the church as it is the primary link between the congregation and the Pastor/Staff.  You also have unique opportunities to work with and offer encouragement for the Pastor and pastoral family.

Passionate Leaders, Passionate Mission: The joke is that we cannot even get paroled from being in a committee. When we know we are finally free from serving on a committee, we duck and cover in the pews making sure not to make eye contact with the pastor.  Funnies aside, serving in leadership at a church has grown into a dreaded experience. What if we could re-align how we lead in such a way that rejuvenated our own spirits while offering hope and guidance to our membership? I hope you will join me, Pastor Don Zlaty, to talk about how to lead through the Great Commission resulting in new life in our churches and leadership teams.

Discipleship:  What is it and Do I need a Pathway? Join Pastor Lucas Rumple, chair of the ERD Discipleship Team, for a discussion where we will ask (and hopefully answer) questions like: What is Discipleship? How do we do it? Obstacles and Struggles? What is a Pathway and Why do Churches use them? How can the District Discipleship Team Help?

Stories of Grace: Telling the Church’s Story Faithfully: Every church has a story—one of faith, transformation, and lives being changed. Yet many of those stories go untold beyond our walls. This session will help your church discover how to clearly, faithfully, and effectively tell its story so that others can see what God is doing in and through your ministry. Together, we will discuss how to share your message in ways that connect, inspire, and invite others into God’s work.  Led by Pastor Tricia Williams, Senior Pastor at Parker City UMC.FOLLOW THIS LINK TO REGISTER:  https://form.jotform.com/253606849919170
